Reserve Team manager Paul Jones is pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Lang as physio. Dan is on his final year undergraduate at UCLAN studying Sports Therapy.
On a warm summers day Witton Reserve team manager Paul Jones held an open trial game at Middlewich Leisure Centre on Saturday 14th June.
Having had a great response from the publicity in the Northwich Guardian and various tweets, there was a great turnout. Paul says We received over 40 enquiries for the trial game some of who were unavailable on the Saturday so I still have a lot of players to look at over the coming weeks should I not find completely what I am looking for through the trials.
The game consisted of 2 teams of trialists, Team 1 in Witton Home strip (14 players) and Team 2 in the Yellow away strip (15 players). As it was a hot day it was agreed with the referee to play 2x20 minute periods and 2x25 minute periods so that the players could take on water and make substitutions.
The game was very lively with lots of good play and some individual high levels of skill. Team 1 took control of the play in the first 2 periods with some good strong midfield play and attacking from both flanks with Team 2 struggling to retain possession. There were a number of shots on and off target for Team 1 who failed to turn their dominance into a goal.
After many substitutions had been made Team 2 finally found their rhythm and with the heat finally making an impact the game swung in their favor pinning their opposition back in their own half.
The score finished Team 1 (1) v Team 2 (4)
After the game Jones said I was pleased with what I saw out their today and the future looks bright. There were some very good individual displays and some players with great potential that I am looking forward to working with. Its hard to make a judgment on just one game so I will be inviting the majority of these players to pre season starting this next Sunday (22st June) and I will also be inviting the players who were unavailable to get a good look at them.
With Paul Jones Having had to play in goal for the game Leo Kirk, assistant manager had this to say We are still looking for competent young goalkeepers in the area as we know this is a specialised position and they would greatly benefit from working with our goalkeeper coach Dave Andrews during the season.
Pre Season for the reserves will now commence on Sunday 22nd June at Whalley Rd Playing Fields, Northwich CW9 5QB starting at 11am.
